5 tips to help you relax in front of the camera

Being in front of the camera comfortably doesn't come naturally for everyone, we get it. Your wedding day will likely have you surrounded by cameras, whether its your videographer/photographer, or cousin Jake getting some snaps on his phone. Feeling relaxed and comfortable is crucial to capturing natural, authentic moments, so here are 5 ways to help you during your wedding videography/photography session:

  1. Get to know your videographer/photographer: Prior to the wedding day, set up a face to face meeting or video call with them to not only go over the details of the day, but to establish a connection. Building rapport and getting familiar with each other can make a world of difference to how comfortable you are during the shoot.

  2. Trust your videographer /photographer: Remember they are professionals and have experience in capturing weddings. Trust their expertise and let them guide you through the process. This isn't their first rodeo and a good videographer/photographer will have all the tips and tricks to help you be comfortable, including a handy dad joke up their sleeve for a good chuckle.

  3. Embrace natural interactions: forget about the perfect pose and your "good side". Let the camera man work his magic and focus on actually enjoying the moment with your partner. Laugh, embrace each other, whisper naughty things in each other's ears, interact naturally. The camera man's job is to capture authentic emotions and candid moments, so embracing the joy of the day will result in beautiful footage/photos.

  4. Bring music: it is perfectly okay to get your vibe going by having a little dance party. Grab a portable speaker and your phone and start playing your jams - have fun with your bridal party, or a romantic dance with your partner. The idea is to forget you are in front of a camera.

  5. Last but not least, trust in post-production editing: your videographer /photographer WANTS you to love the final product. This means they will choose the best angles, most flattering images/footage, and most love soaked moments. Also know that you can absolutely be a part of the editing process - not a fan of a particular shot in the highlight film? No worries, that can be edited out. Knowing that there is an editing process in place can provide peace of mind during the shoot.

Remember, your wedding day is a celebration of love, and your videographer is there to capture the magic. By implementing these tips, you can feel more relaxed and natural in front of the camera, resulting in footage that reflects the joy and happiness of your special day.
